Beta terms

The practical rules for using Hard Block Life. The short version: you must be 18 or older, expect breakage and resets, do not ruin the room for other players, and keep your own backups in mind because browser saves are local.

Engineering draft. These terms are intended for this limited, free closed beta. STOIC AS should obtain professional legal review before a broad or paid commercial launch. Nothing here limits rights that cannot legally be limited.

1. Who runs the beta

Hard Block Life is operated by STOIC AS, organisation no. 926 193 880, Vulkan 10, unit H0408, 0178 Oslo, Norway (“STOIC”, “we”, “us”). Questions can be sent to support@hardblocklife.com.

2. Who may take part

This is an 18+ · unrated closed beta. You may use it only if you are at least 18 and have received authorised access to the shared beta code. The code is an access control, not an account, purchase, ownership right or promise of future access.

You are responsible for keeping the beta code out of public posts and for activity from your browser. In-game five-letter room codes are different: they only help players meet in a temporary room.

3. What “beta” means

BUILD 51 is unfinished test software. Features, balance, world generation, networking, availability and these terms can change. The game may crash, perform badly, lose data, reset a world or become unavailable without notice. We may limit player numbers, pause online rooms, revoke access or end the beta.

Browser saves, settings and player names are stored locally on that browser and device. They are not cloud-synced. This hardblocklife.com launch starts with fresh browser worlds; old GitHub Pages saves are not migrated. Clearing site data, changing browser profiles, private browsing, device failure or a beta reset can remove progress.

The beta is currently free. It includes no purchase, subscription, paid item or promise that a free or paid final product will ship.

4. Fair play and acceptable conduct

You must follow the separate Community Rules. In particular, do not harass or threaten people, share private information, use hate speech, impersonate others, disrupt the service, probe other players, automate abusive traffic, bypass the beta gate, distribute downloaded game code, or use exploits to spoil a room.

Finding a bug is welcome. Exploiting it against others is not. Report security issues or severe exploits privately to support@hardblocklife.com and give us a reasonable chance to investigate before publishing details.

5. Content and safety

The beta contains stylised block violence, firearms, crime, robbery, police pursuits, explosions, drugs/alcohol references, mature humour and online interaction with other players. It may include bright flashes, siren effects, rapid movement and high-contrast lighting that can be uncomfortable or unsafe for people with photosensitivity or motion sensitivity.

Stop playing if you feel unwell. Use the in-game options to reduce effects where available, play in a well-lit room and take breaks. This is general safety information, not medical advice.

6. Licence, ownership and feedback

STOIC grants you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to run the beta for private testing. The game, source, art, branding, sound, design and related intellectual property remain owned by STOIC or its licensors. You may not sell, sublicense, mirror, reverse engineer beyond mandatory legal allowances, remove notices, or use the beta to build or train a competing product.

You keep ownership of feedback you create. If you send feedback, screenshots or bug reports to STOIC, you allow us to use, reproduce, edit and share that material without payment for developing, testing, securing and promoting Hard Block Life. Do not send material you are not allowed to share.

7. Suspension and termination

You can stop at any time and use “Lock beta access” on the website to clear the access cookie. You can also clear local site data, which removes local saves and settings.

We may suspend or end access if we reasonably believe these terms or the Community Rules were broken, if access creates security or operational risk, or if the beta ends. Serious abuse may be reported to the relevant service provider or authorities where necessary and lawful.

8. Service responsibility

We provide the beta on an “as available” testing basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, STOIC does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, compatibility, error-free operation, preserved saves, a future release or fitness for a particular purpose.

STOIC is not responsible for indirect loss, lost progress, lost opportunity or device/network costs caused by ordinary beta faults, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for intent or gross negligence, personal injury where exclusion is prohibited, or any mandatory rights you have under Norwegian or other applicable consumer law.

9. Governing law, changes and contact

Norwegian law governs these terms, without removing mandatory protections available to you in your country of residence. We will first try to resolve disputes in good faith. If they cannot be resolved, Norwegian courts have jurisdiction unless mandatory law gives you another forum.

We may update these terms when the beta changes. Material changes will be dated on this page and, where practical, called out before continued access. Contact support@hardblocklife.com with questions.
